Lower West Side Residents are Divided on Metal Shredder Proposal
The proposal to ramp up operation at a Saint John metal recycling facility got different reactions.
$30-million scrap metal shredder is being eyed by American Iron and Metal to be added to its Lower West Side site, which can be found on Port of Saint John property. Adding the $30-million shredder would help the facility boost its output by as much as 500 percent.

Laid-off Workers Flocking to Trucking Schools
Although truck driving is branded as a blatantly unpleasant profession, so demanding that it often requires weeks away from family, it continues to be one of the most popular job choices for students enrolled in the program. Laid off workers flock to enroll in trucking schools to build new careers that they hope will always stay in demand.
In fact, Michigan has an ambitious job retraining program that pays up to $10,000 in tuition for laid-off workers preparing students for new careers and new economy. This retraining program is known as "No Worker Left Behind" and already has 4,731students enrolled in it.

Because of this, the Port of Long Beach has tacked on a Healthy Drivers Program to their Clean Truck Program. The port has set manpower to research different healthcare options and can help truckers with the sometimes daunting task.
