Logistics company gets HIP with hydrogen

One of Mississauga's most environmentally responsible businesses has joined forces with Alternate Energy Corp. (AEC) of Burlington to form an alliance aimed at increasing the use of hydrogen injection in Ontario truck fleets.

Lange Transportation and Logistics has agreed to work closely with AEC in what the companies call "a strategic alliance" to promote the technology, which reduces harmful emissions.

"I have told AEC that we'll do whatever we can to help bring their Hydrogen Injection Process (HIP) technology to the industry," said Eric Lange, president and CEO of the Mississauga company.

Lange says he has taken his new 70,000-sq.-ft. warehouse on Nashua Dr. off the natural gas system and realized savings of more than $6,000 per month by using geothermal generation, which employs the earth's own internal energy system to heat and cool the building. The effort has earned the company numerous awards for its environmental efforts, most recently receiving the Environmental Achievement Award from the Mississauga Board of Trade at its 2007 awards of excellence event. Lange firmly advocates that one, "can be a smart business person and an environmentalist at the same time." Under the agreement, Lange will allow use of its trucking fleet to AEC's engineers to conduct further on-board testing of the HIP technology. Lange has also agreed to introduce AEC to key players in the North American trucking industry in an effort to help establish a solid customer base for HIP technology.

"I have personally witnessed the many benefits of hydrogen injection, having had some first-hand experience with an earlier technology," said Lange. "We believe that the AEC solution will prove to be a major benefit to our company and the trucking industry as a whole. A reliable hydrogen solution that increases mileage and horsepower while also reducing harmful greenhouse gases that cause global warming is one that I am definitely willing to promote." Lange is the only North American transportation and logistical management company devoted entirely to the trade/consumer show and special events market. The company was founded in 1986 and is Canadian-owned and operated. It acts as an agent for Atlas Van Lines Canada.
