Trucking Industry Campaigns

The trucking industry is seriously committed to safety, and they always encourage safe driving around trucks. For that reason, they promote several safety campaigns across the country. With almost two million truckers on the road during the course of a single day, the trucking industry can provide an extra hand to the state police and federal agencies to increase security and safety on the nation's interstates. As a result, they created the Highway Watch campaign that consist in training drivers to report and recognize dangerous road conditions, the precise location of accidents and others complicated situations that can happen on the road. They operate with modern communication tools, including email, cell phones and Citizens Band (CB) radios to keep in contact with the needed authorities.

Another great campaign promoted by the trucking industry is "America's Road Team". The Road Team is selected annually from the nation's finest drivers, and they are in charge of being the voice of safety messages on TV and journal ads. Several associations such as the American Trucking Association (ATA), the Professional Truck Driver Institute (PTDI) or the Used Truck Association (UTA) also help to spread and support these campaigns.

Finally, we also have the "Share the Road" campaign that was created to reduce the number of tragic accidents that occur between trucks and cars. This campaign consists in giving information to drivers and public in general about how to drive safely near trucks. Therefore, if you become a professional truck driver, you would probably have to know about these campaigns and help the industry in its efforts for safety roads. Today, more and more truck driving schools are helping the industry provide instructions about the campaigns in their programs.
