Are you ready to earn $32,000 to $34,000 per year? Well, if you decide to become an over-the-road truck driver, according to the American Trucking Association (ATA), you will earn that much just starting. Although economical remuneration is quite attractive, you have to realize that another important decision you must take it is to choose the right school. An organization that certifies for the highest quality driver training in schools is the Commercial Vehicle Training Association (CVTA). Thanks to its Code of Conduct, several school members across the country offer their students a quality education that even exceeds the trucking industry standards. So, at the time of choosing, a good idea is to verify if the school is a member of the CVTA.
The CVTA is the national trade association representing the proprietary truck driving schools in the United States and Canada. This important association was born in the early 90s. It was founded by a group of private owners who were earlier members of the National Association of Truck Driving Schools (NATDS), the Committee of Accredited Truck Schools (CATDS) and the Association of Certified Trucking Schools (ACTS). They formalized the name of the association during Driver Training and Development Alliance (DTDA) which is second annual meeting. The first executive director of CVTA was Earl Eisenhart who later was replaced by Michael O'Connell, who still directs the association today.
The Code of Conduct is the main condition that the proprietary of truck driving schools must agree with if they want to become a member of the association. The Code was planned to guarantee that students enrolled in member schools are provided with the utmost quality driver training. At the moment, CVTA has 53 member organizations that run about 180 training sites around the US. Each year, they estimate that about 45,000 students graduate of these sites.
Among the most important sponsors of the CTVA, you will find the Hartford Insurance Group, the Werner Enterprises Inc and the Covenant Transport, which are considered Platinum Sponsors. The organization also works closely with other organizations such as the American Trucking Association (ATA), the Professional Truck Driver Institute (PTDI) and the National Association of Publicly Funded Truck Driving Schools (NAPFTDS), among others. On both the PTDI and NAPFTDS, the association has a seat on the Board of Directors.
Therefore, if there is an association working to increase the quality and safety in the trucking industry, it is the CVTA. Their members are benefited by having representation with the federal and state governments and inside the industry. Also, educational programs and helping its members in reducing costs and taking advantages of new opportunities are important goals of the organization. What is more, the association promotes professionalism through inspector certification.
If you are interested in knowing more about the CVTA, assist to one of its two conferences a year. The following is going to take place from April 6 to 8 in San Antonio, Texas, including a Golf Tournament and other activities you will enjoy.
