In the South Arkansas Community College, there are several divisions for training in a variety of commercial activities and one of them is the Truck Driving Division that provides each student all the basic knowledge of the trucking industry. The training program consists of five phases with a time limit each; students advance to the next phase when they demonstrate that already learn all about the previous phase.
These phases are: Orientation, CDL written exam and backing training, it includes the study of health and wellness, stress management, defense driving, drug and alcohol awareness, accident reporting, map reading and log book annotation. At this phase students must get the CDL permit before beginning backing training. The second phase is the Shifting and Basic Vehicle Operation; here the students receive pre trip inspection, maneuvering, and vehicle shifting, brake and clutch coordination and incline operations. The third phase is the Four Lane Controlled Access Driving and it consists in provide the students with additional shifting experience and lane management; they also receive the CDL basic control skills training.
The fourth phase is the Two Lane Roads Interstate Driving, in this one the students learn about on the road application skills with exposure to a variety of driving conditions, the student is also prepared for the CDL driving exam that they can take when this phase ends. The last phase is the CDL Road Test and it depends on the student.
Some of the requirements you need to enter in this school are: proof of being at least 21 years old, DOT physical examination results, and DOT drug screen and alcohol results.
